Sports Massage Blackrock Dublin

What is Sports Massage?

A sports massage is a specialised form of massage therapy that focuses on enhancing athletic performance, preventing injuries, and promoting faster recovery from training and competition. It utilises various techniques to manipulate soft tissues like muscles, tendons, ligaments, and fascia, addressing the specific needs of athletes and those engaged in physical activities.

Sports massage focuses on specific areas and muscle groups that are commonly affected by physical activity, such as those used in a particular sport. It incorporates techniques like deep tissue massage, trigger point therapy, stretching, and vibration therapy to target deeper layers of muscle and connective tissue.

How Sports Massage Can Help

Sports massage can help relax muscles, improve circulation, release stress, increase flexibility, and reduce pain and inflammation. It’s often used before, during, and after sporting events to prepare the body, improve performance, and aid in recovery.

While primarily used by athletes, sports massage can also benefit individuals with demanding jobs, those who experience occupational stress, and those with chronic pain.
While sports massage shares some techniques with general massage, it’s more specialised and focused on addressing the unique needs of athletes and individuals engaged in physical activity. It often involves deeper work and more specific techniques to target muscle groups and tissues commonly used in sports.

Sports massage is a tool to optimise athletic performance, prevent injuries, and enhance recovery through the manipulation of soft tissues.

After rupturing my ACL, I was sent to Stephen to help with my rehab to get me back doing sport without getting surgery. The help I got was second to none and I returned to sport within 6 months of the injury. A year after my injury, I decided to get surgery and Stephen was able to help me prepare for the surgery and help get me back to full training earlier than anticipated. I was fully prepared for every step of the journey thanks to Stephen and he made what I needed to do at each stage very clear to me which helped hugely with the rehab. Stephen was able to show me the progress I made throughout the entire rehab process which helped add an extra incentive.

Thank you so much to the Medfit team, especially my physio Stephen. I was given exercises which were tailored to suit me and Stephen’s technical knowledge and attention to detail was very effective. I couldn’t recommend the place more!

For the past couple of years, I had pain while walking, sitting and exercising. I tried various approaches but with no success. Medfit was recommended to me and I booked an appointment with Stephen Armstrong. At the first appointment he carried out a comprehensive assessment and devised a plan with me to address the issue. Within a few weeks I improved dramatically. In total, I had 5 appointments with Stephen and am now pain free. Stephen’s empowering approach is fantastic. Thank you Stephen.

Last year I had open heart surgery to replace my aortic valve following which I had many serious infections. This impacted on my fitness levels and my self confidence to partake in strenuous physical activity. Some months ago I committed to join some of my fellow hill walking club members for a hill walking holiday to Greece in September. The big challenge was to climb Mount Olympus, Greece's highest mountain which involved staying in mountain huts for two nights. To prepare for this challenge I enrolled for a three months exercise programme with Med Fit. I was fortunate to have had Alana Doran as my one to one adviser. Alana outlined a fitness programme for me which was reviewed regularly. During our weekly one to one class Alana, in addition to attending to my general fitness levels also focused on the various body parts relevant to my forthcoming hill walking holiday. The good news is that I climbed Mount Olympus, and also partook in some other less demanding climbs without any difficulty. I thank Alana for her professional assistance to me and also for enabling me to have the confidence to take on the challenge. I also acknowledge her for being so pleasant and easy to communicate with.
